Cumulus Encrypted Storage System (CESS) — The first decentralized storage project for Web 3.0

Source: CESS Website

Cumulus Encrypted Storage System (CESS) aims to establish the first decentralized storage project that offers full support to commercial applications at a large scale, which will serve the next generation of Web 3.0 services.

CESS encourages excess or under-utilized resources as nodes to join CESS’s unrestricted expandable network via the token economy incentive method. Each node joins the CESS peer-to-peer network by contributing data storage resources, computational resources, or network bandwidth. CESS organizes and manages the participating resources providing clients with secure, high performance, and boundless cloud data storage services.

In addition to meeting the data storage and sharing demands of individuals and small businesses, CESS is also capable of supporting large scale enterprise storage requirements with high security and performance.

There are many advantages to using CESS compared to using other storage platforms out there, which tend to be slow and there is also the risk of possible data loss. With CESS, due to its layered architecture and key technology that they employ, you will enjoy an efficient and secure storage platform with high availability. Data is automatically encrypted and also stored in multiple copies, which is randomly distributed to participating nodes to guarantee privacy and safety of your data.

You also can store multiple formats, be it text, images, audio, video or any combination of these. CESS envisions different usages of its services, for example it can provide a Distributed Network Drive/disks service to end users. Compared to traditional network drive service providers, the service the CESS provides has significant advantages on security, ownership protection, cost, and capacity.

CESS can also provide a decentralized on-chain data sharing platform whereby the CESS storage ecosystem will be the interactive data sharing platform used by developers, creators, and consumers to build and evolve together. Some examples are NFT trading platforms, content sharing platforms and medical data platforms for use by doctors and their patients.

The CESS team won first place in the 2021 Polkadot Global Hackathon on the most competitive blockchain track. They emerged victorious out of a total of 800 registrations, 60+ project submissions and 17 projects in the final demo in the Hackathon. They have an extremely strong and experienced team who have been building since 2019.

The native token of the CESS project is $CESS, of which 55% is reserved as miners rewards. This will be used to incentivize users to either be a Storage Contributor or Consensus Miner. Storage Contributors earn tokens by contributing to the data storage service, evaluated by Basic Operating Indicators (such as node configuration, node availability, bandwidth) and Resource Contribution Indicators (storage size, amount of traffic contribution, runtime performance indicators).

Consensus Miners earn tokens by contributing to transaction verification, data packaging, and data block generation. $CESS will also be used as rewards for stakers of the $CESS token.
